The Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island continue to lead the way in South Australia in waste management, being the first and only council to provide weekly collection of Recycling and FOGO over the summer period. The Summer Recycling Collection program reduced waste sent to landfill by 20% and achieved a landfill diversion rate of 68% up from 57% in 2021/22. This was led by a 61% increase in Food Organics and Garden Organics material collected and a 19% increase in Recycling material collected and injected into South Australia’s circular economy.
